When Nature speaks… I listen.
Especially when the noise of the world, the media, and the mostly bad news start’s interfering with my own frequency, and that of my heart. I take time to step away from my daily routine, habits, and (over) thinking, and give my “monkey mind” some time off.
I go for a walk (hike or drive) on the “wild” side and observe, notice, and “listen for the messages” that Nature feels inspired to share. The wisdom and energy of the Earth always help me reset, re-center, and recharge my soul.
Recently I took a spontaneous road trip with friends to Tofino… a surfer’s paradise of legendary long beaches, and ancient rainforest hugging the rugged Pacific coastline, and sacred Indigenous land.
Tofino’s motto is “Half the Speed, Twice the Pleasure.” And that’s just how I like to roll when I’m there. In addition to the calming sound of the surf, the mist in the trees, and the star-lit skies, I also love to watch for the animal and marine life that shows up when I’m there.
This trip offered a rare and dazzling surprise.
Enter the starfish.
On a very remote beach at low tide, we encountered an array of brilliant purple and orange starfish, shining like diamonds among the rocks. It was unlike anything I’d seen in all my years on the west coast.
I wondered what message this star-studded magic show had for us?
When I looked up the spiritual meaning of the starfish, I discovered it symbolizes the ability to renew oneself–the very reason my friends and I came to Tofino!
This star of the sea reminds us that the power to heal and re-invent oneself comes from within. The spirit of the starfish also encourages you to trust your instincts and inner voice.
Wow, who knew the starfish was so intuitive and wise! And it was the perfect spiritual guide, and guidance, to appear to us on an unforgettable day at the beach.
I returned from the surf, sands, and misty skies of Tofino deeply nourished on a cellular and soul level. Anchored in the truth that the wisdom of Nature and its creatures great and small are always there for us when we take time to pause, notice, and pick up our messages.
